Buck Shoals is just one member of the Vineyards of Swan Creek
Association which was formed by neighboring vineyards to do joint marketing
and advertising with all four members being within a 5 mile radius of each other.
Member vineyards are Buck Shoals, Laurel Gray,
Raffaldini and Windy Gap each with a totally
different look and feel and with wine taste that are unique to each vineyard’s
grapes.
You may want to start at Buck Shoals, visiting in our cozy
log cabin tasting room structure with its wooden floors and walls and a huge
back deck and front porch with rocking chairs are always inviting. The BSV tasting
room is in the midst of their 7 ½ acre vineyard and winery and is located
in the heart of Amish country with Shiloh General Store (include a bakery and
deli) being only a mile away. Breads, cheeses, mustards and wine jelly are some
of the foods available here. Free week end winery tours are available with week
day tours available if scheduled in advance. Ample parking makes it easy to
accommodate larger groups and tour buses.
A short 2.8 mile drive north (back towards Rt. 421) takes you to Laurel
Gray Vineyard and its tasting room which is a beautifully restored
and decorated milking parlor which serves as the Laurel Gray tasting room. It
has porch and patio with picnic table overlooking a nice cold water pond that
is stocked with always hungry fish makes for a nice leisurely walk.
As you leave Laurel Gray you turn right and proceed to the stop sign, then
turning right on Swan Creek Road. You proceed until you see the Raffaldini sign
and turn left of Clingman road. A short distance on Clingman road you will again
see the Raffaldini Vineyard sign and would turn left onto Groce
Road. Raffaldini Vineyard entrance is on the right through a beautiful stone
and wrought iron gate entrance up to hill to the tasting room with its panoramic
view of multiple mountain ranges. (Total distance from Laurel Gary approximately
5 miles).
As you leave Raffaldini, you turn left back onto Clingman road and proceed
straight thru the stop sign at Green’s Store. You will shortly see a Windy
Gap sign and should turn right onto Pardue Farm road. Proceed until you see
the Windy Gap sign and turn left up a short winding road to
the Windy Gap entrance. (Approximately 5 miles from Raffaldini). Enjoy the fine
and sweet wines of Windy Gap while petting their friendly Bassett Hounds and
visiting their tasting room.
The total trip to visit all four vineyards is about 13 miles and with spending
about 30 minutes to 1 hour at each is a easily, done half day activity.
Other vineyards a little further away are Hanover Park, Rag
Apple Lassie, Elkin Creek and Flint Hill
some of which could be included in a full day trip.
